Author and playwright. Amo. ng his works are "Des Teufels General" (the devil's general),
"Der Schinderhannes" and "Der fršhliche Weinberg" (The merry wineyard). During the Nazi regime he emigrated to USA and Switzerland. He received the Bundesverdienstkreuz (Distinguished Service Cross of the Federal Republic of Germany) and was made honorary citizen of Nackenheim, the city of his birth.
